- In January 1990 Prime Minister Li Peng took his residence at Taihu Hotel and all readily gave his inscription ＾ The Cradle of Wuxi¨s Tourist Industry￣.
- On Sept.28th, 2000 the New Taihu Hotel after its reconstruction was solemnly having its opening ceremony. While on this occasion, it was conferred upon the title of five-star hotel by the state Tourism Administration, thus becoming the first shingle-put-up five-star hotel in Wuxi.
